I have a johnson 50 VRO. When I start it first time its great . I during the day I move 2/3 times it gets increasingly difficult to start. It is a push in choke type ignition ,am I supposed to push the ignition key in on the OMC control each time I start it or not. Some say by pushing in and giving choke each time I start it I may be flooding it??
Also last week I could not start it and I got a bit annoyed an snapped the key in the ignition anyone know where I can get a replacement.

Re: 50 hp starting problems

Hi Panda

Depends on how long your stops are and the temp.outside. If just a short time, then it should fire up. If an hour or better, you may have to use the choke. Does it smoke alot when you restart? As for the key, Look on the ignition switch for a number where the key goes in. Take that to the dealer for a copy. Or, if you have the stub left, take it and have a key made anywhere they make them...

Re: 50 hp starting problems

Thanks for the reply Rick.
I does not smoke at all when I start it (when I start it). This is really getting me down. I am new to boating and have only been out 4 1st. 1st time no problems at all the each other time problems, first I thought it was the mix so I discarded all the petrol and renewed with the 501 50/1 still the same. Then I came to the conclusion I must be flooding it with the choke. Last time I tried to start it so many times I outed battery so battery,so I changed it and it started first time now I think it may be the battery not charging but it seemed to be turning over fine before, just not firing. Could this be the problem.
Any advise gratefully be greatfully received.
Thanks.
