I have a 1972, 50hp, 4cyl, ser# 3348397
It has a bad distributor, I do not know exactly what at this point. I bought it this way, and I am taking the word of the previous owner, who was told by a local shop it was bad and quoted him $400.00 to rebuilt it. Does that sound normal?

I am thinking of getting a used one off of Ebay, but I am unsure how to determine what will work. The number on my distributor is 333 4674. I have seen others on the web with the 333 but the other numbers have been different. What do they mean?

Any push in the right direction would be helpful.

I am poor and married so I can not afford to spend much, but I am not afriad to get my hands dirty.

Re: 50hp 1972 distributor

I think, but am not positive that most any four cylinder distributor from the early through mid/late 70's would work.

Many-a-used ones might need bearings, and snap ring bearing retainers at least though.

$400 might be quite a bargain price for the distributor rebuild, if they are replacing bearings, rotor, cap, and pickup with new parts +labor!

Thanks, that kinda what I am thinking, but without really knowing I hate buying used parts with no return policy.

Anyone with thoughts on the 333 numbers?

Thanks
