50hp charging system

I have a 2001 50hp merc (50ELPT) that does not charge the battery. I don't do a lot of merc repairs and was wondering if someone could help me out.
I was checking the rectifier and it shows continuity on the two yellow wires in both directions, shouldn't it be in one direction only?
The two yellow wires from the stator are not grounded, but I am not sure of what resistance should be between the two wires.
If anyone could help me out, I would be greatful for the information.

With the 2 yellow wires disconnected you should read very low ohms (1-2) in both directions. And no reading to ground. So it appears you charge coils on the stator are good. The most common thing(s) to go are the diodes in the rectifier/regulator. Your manual will tell you how to check them. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply, I will have to see if I can locate a manual for this engine.
