The spark on the plugs I can hardly see tiny. battery , starter working fine. I am spinning with the plugs out. Plenty fast to start. any advice to what to try? thanks
Forget testing using the sparkplugs.----Just not a good test.-----Answer this---Does spark jump a 3/8" gap on a test device, yes or no ?-----And is this on a 1958 model 50 hp or something else ?
I have replaced the powerpack, no good. I have pulled the flywheel and the spark sensor looks like it mav have got hot. Could that sensor cause the problem?
Stator supplies power for CDI unit and battery charge. When rectifier fails it causes the stator to overheat thus the goo.,then the charge coil(brn wire) fails .the yellows are for battery charge.
well Sam, I'd say electrical trouble shooting is needed. CDI has a good guide online for free. would recommend a digital volt meter( under 40$ everywhere), and a DVA adapter( 30$ online) i got the one from electronic specialties. also a factory service manual if your going to be a DIY'r . look online you may find one fairly cheap, i did, even one for a year or so earlier, they didn't change hardly at all between 86 to 88. i've had to change 2 charge coils in 5 years
here is what I have done so far new stator, new rectifier, power pack, coils, all new. im at the end of my rope, exactly where I started, tiny spark at one plug and nothing on the other any advice greatly appreciated. thanks guys
well so much for troubleshooting, the only 2 things you haven,t changer is the charge coil and the sensor coil. 0583387 - Ignition Sensor about $30. and 0581670 - Charge Coil under $30 both under flywheel, when installing be careful aliening the edge facings with the plate they mount on, i bet its the charge coil.
