50hp evinrude year

I have just brought an Evinrude 50hp serial Number C56785,and Model Number 50473M. Could anybody tell me what year it was made and for my further referance, how you can tell the age of evinrude's, by these numbers. Thanks for your help Ian

You have a 1974 model. You need a year model guide for this info. There are some web sites that will provide partial lists. This is to facilitate sales for their parts.

Thanks alcan. I didn't think it was that old, because of being through prop exhaust. When I went to buy it, I new that the 40hp changed to through prop exhaust around the mid 1980's, so I thought that the 50hp would be about the same. Do you know when through prop exhaust was introduced on the 50hp by Evinrude's. Thanks again Ian

OMC Made 50hp twins from 1971 to 1979 with the thru hub exhaust. They provided this feature on several other models in the sixties. In 1988 to 1990 OMC offered 50hp twins also. That is as recent as my book goes, they may have more.
