50hp Johnson- had this alarm sounding after it was running at full throttle for a while. I just rebuilt the two carbs and tried it out and heard this alarm.
Is your Motor, oil injected and what did the alarm sound like? (Slow Beeps, Fast Beeps, Steady?) When you slowed down, did it go away? More info please! What Year?

Rick
the alarm was steady and it stayed on when I slowed down. But when I turned the engine off and turned back on, the alarm did NOT come back on for some time, but it did return later after going full throttle a while.

It is a 1983 50hp Johnson. I use 50 to 1 oil mixture to a 6 gallon gas tank.
Sounds like either your horn is giving a false alarm or your engine is overheating(Steady Horn). Check to see if the head is too hot to hold your hand on when it running. How far did you go after the alarm went off? You may have a bad connection at the Temp. Sender at the block, as it did'nt do this before you had the carb work done. It may also be that your Water Pump is getting weak! Maybe others have some suggestions that will help further.
