50HP Nissan won't start.....

this is about an '88 or '89 model that i purchased this year it has started well until recently it stranded us on the lake and someone who towed us told me to check the stator. does this sound accurate?

First, we need your precise model and serial. Year is unimportant. Next we need some symptoms... as detailed as possible. If you are planning to turn wrenches yourself, buy a Factory service manual from any dealer (including me). If none of this makes any sense to you, contact your local dealer for assistance.
