1986 johnson 50hp (electric start) 2cyl, what is the max rpm's that I should get @ wot?
Purchased it used over winter with 14" wahoo, tore it mostly apart and almost ready to fire it up for the First Time... still waiting for the paint to dry
Take a look at the mess I discovered when i pulled the head!
Head Block
It's all cleaned up now tho with compression of 115 in both cylinders; new water pump, 2 carb kits, new t-stat & pressure plug, fuel pump, hoses, and a new kitchen sink. :D
Sure hope it starts
Cannot wait to get out in the 1000 islands
Thanks in advance!

Also, when I pulled the 2 water jackets (one over the head, and one to the left where the pee water comes from) some of the bolts broke, and I ended up replacing all of them with stainless steel, will that cause any problems?

Re: 50hp vro wot rpm?

Manual lists 4500-5500 as the full throttle operating range. My recommendation is to prop it to turn in the upper limits of that with an average load.Make sure the engine is mounted to its optimal height on boat transom as well. This will afford the least amount of drag and reduce exhaust back pressure.By doing so ,you will also get the optimal rpms from your engine.I'm guessing a 12 1/2" dia. X 15" pitch prop will put you in the ballpark.Of course only a water test can confirm final results.

On the bolts,If you use 316 stainless,I think they'll be fine.304 would be my second choice.
