I have a 50's oliver outboard. It is a 40 hp long shaft, with all the controls and electric start. AS far as I can tell, it needs 2 new coils and plugs to make it run. Does anyone know of any good sites that would have these parts. And two, does anyone know what this motor is worth, (if anythng).

Thanks

Re: 50's Oliver outboard

sorry to pirate this post, but I can't figure out how to create a new post...

I have a late 50s Oliver 5hp outboard and I am trying to find out what kind of value it has. I am not sure if it runs, since I have not attempted. It is in good condition for its age, but I am not a great judge on marine engines.

I have found the Oliver museum link shown, but no response.

Do these engines have collector value if they do not run?

Thanks,
Rich

On the title page just above "other outboards" "post a new thread."
Your 5 hp is easier to collect than that really cool 40 hp.Value is in the eye of the collector.
a non running motor could be as cheap as 5 or 10 bucks depending on the condition.
There must be some out there collecting the Oliver. You might poke around at www.aomci.org
Just don't ask about the value.
I paid $100 for a non running Gale Bucaneer 5 hp That I felt was a safe bet and knew many parts were readily available.

There is a Chris-Craft/Oliver special interest group within the Antique Outboard Club, www.aomci.org One of the benefits of joining the club is you get access to such information. Yes there are interested collectors.
