Hi -

My father just inherited what appears to be a 1952 25 horsepower Evinrude Bigtwin, built in Peterborough Ontario, Canada. It is a manual start. It looks somewhat rough on the exterior, but has good compression, spark, and looks to be reasonable mechanically. Looks like a great restoration project and the first thing he asked me is if I might be able to find him a parts manual or a service manual for this motor?

I recall the s/n started with 2003, denoting this as a late-cycle 1952 outboard.

Any hints on where we might locate the parts/service manual for this? Can you still find parts for these? He thought he may have to replace the coils, but not just sure yet.

thanks in advance.

Re: '52 Bigtwin

Not that I know much about anything, but I was able to get like any part from Bombardier itself. I went to the closest store to me (Klaus Marine in Etobicoke) and the guy behind the counter puller up all the parts I could ever want in about 2 seconds. I Figure you could order parts from them, or check with your local BRP dealer. I am currently trying to find the site that shows where they are for you. I will post it as soon as I can find the damn thing.

http://shop.evinrude.com/media/document/ModelNumberReference.pdf I checked this and you are right 2003 is the model for the '52 25hp model.

Most of the common ignition, carb and water pump parts are still available through Bombardier dealers or after-market places...like Iboats.

Anyone fortunate enough to find a 1952 Big Twin should completely restore it!

These are awesome motors and well worth the effort in making them pristine.

A good place to get a service manual is through the Ken Cook Company, which is at:

www.outboardbooks.com

Factory service manuals are available there and so are owner's manuals. If you need parts, you might checks these sources, starting with the top.

sea-way.com
engine blade and prop.com
outboard-parts.com
laingsoutboards.com
tcoutboard.com
fairwindsmarina.com
salvagemarine.com
marinepartsoutlet.com
outboardexchange.com
Superior Marine (800-338-9281)
budgetboats.net
americanoutboard.com
piratemarinesalvage.com
trixieslanding.com
mmmarinesalvage.com
tcoutboards.com

Engine Blade and Prop has been great about older stuff in the past, probably moreso than Sea-Way.

Take good care of that old classic.
