I just machined down a new impeller to fit and it does pump water (I put the lower unit in a pail of water and turned the drive shaft with a drill) the water jackets are not plugged as I ran water from a hose into the water intake tube while the lower unit was off. test ran it in a garbage pail full of water after assembly didnt pee. there is a water flush hole on the back of the leg if I take the screw out I can spray water in there, comes out hole on front of leg. but when running nothing comes out there. I think exhaust gasses exit behind water intake just above the prop, is that where cooling water comes out as well? I just got a service manual but it dosent have this info.

Thanks
Travis

There is a 1/4" drilled hole on the rear of the motor, down almost to the water line that the water discharges from. It should be squirting a pencel-size solid stream of water out that hole at all speeds.

Stacking up the water pump components correctly with all the keys in place and the spring in place and right side up is important.

The water comes out a hole in the leg just above the lower unit. It does not have a "pee" stream. PM me your email address and I'll send you the owners and parts manual for your motor in pdf format.

Hmmm, that's not where my 1950 7.5hp exits but they could be different. Mine is the same as FR says, 1/4" hole just above the water line and it does not gush out, it just comes out nicely, horizontally, not vertical.

Ferrariman's motor looks like a 1954-55, which is completely different from yours.

The '54/'55 has a fingertip sized hole under the triangular-shaped casting held on by three screws on the rear of the motor leg. Some water will gush out of there about 10 seconds after start up, if not sooner. Should be a good scattered stream, as that also acts as an exhaust relief. Most of the water will exit with the exhaust down below the AV plate...

I have a 67 Evinrude 80Hp and don't have a strong pee stream anywhere either. The exhaust hole spits out some water but I don't see a stream. Is this normal?
