Hello I'm new to iboats but have found a lot of info on my motors here, until now. I'm trying to remove my lower end but cannot find a way to disconnect shift rod. My aim here is to replace the impeller. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance I know this is a rookie question but then I'm a rookie so...

Welcome to iboats.

Just above where the gearcase attaches to the exhaust housing there in a panel on the back of the leg held on with 3 bolts. The shift rod disconnect is behind that panel. I havent played with the early QDs in a bit.

Thanks for your quick reply Chris, I've removed the cover you mentioned but inside is the upper rod threaded into a casting which the lower rod also threads into,I'm not understanding,do I remove cotter pin from top of upper rod and unthread from the casting?

This is what I see under the cover I removed. To the left is the upper rod on the right the lower.

Here is what the case will look like removed. Remove the top nut and drop gearcase.

ok looking at that picture it appears the top shift rod has to be unscrewed from the casting.
I'll give that a try thanks again.

Well here she is running and just pumping water like a champ! Thanks for your help Chris! I also have a few vids of my JW-10 on youtube. Both are survivors I bought for 85 bucks for the pair! I run a 24:1 mix in both and plan on handing them down to my son, after I've had my fun!

Awesome thanks for the video! She is pumping like a champ! Should be no overheat issues on that one. Enjoy the water
