So I have started my restoration of my 52 SC. I have had a really hard time finding any literature on this boat. I am wondering, does anyone know where I can find wiring diagrams if any exist?

I will post pics of my progress if anyone is interested. This is going to be a great project! I have a great idea for the foam when I get it poured in and I will post pics of that as well. My goal with the foam is to be able to remove it in 3 sections so if I ever have to lift up the deck again i won't have to worry about sticking foam. I studied the hull completely last night and it's time to fire up the heater in the garage and go!

One more ?. I am new to this forum and the input is great. I am also a rookie with this old of a boat. My title says 1952 Star Craft Pleasure boat 16' V. Is there such a model name "Pleasure Boat"? If not how can I find the model name of this boat? I hope my beginner ?s don't bother ppl in this community.

Re: 52 sc

First off, let me welcome you to the restoration forum...
Next let me help stop some of your worrying...whether or not you can get any info on your boat, does not matter...
On this forum, you will be able to do whatever needs doing to your boat to bring it back to better than new condition with all of the super knowledgeable and helpful folks here...
Any wiring concerns you have can be fully explored, discussed and resolved in the electrical section of the forum...
The biggest requirement on your part is a willingness to learn from those that have "been there, done that" and most of all post pictures of your boat...lots of them and often...We not only thrive on pics, but they help us help you by being able to see what you see...

Best of luck and have fun!

Welcome to TinLand! It must be an aluminum boat being that old. Yes - Pics are helpful for a couple of reasons. One so we we can offer help help and advice, second because we like to see pics of tinnies.

On your wiring question - Are you looking for nav light, radio, bilge pump, etc. wiring or motor wiring?

Pleasure Boat is a new one on me. I'll guess it was an assigned by the state boat people. It's hard to find any literature going back to 1952.

Re: 52 sc

Somewhere here are some generic boat wiring diagrams. Let me look around tomorrow and I'll find them for you. It's past my bedtime. :)

I forgot to say she looks nice in the two pics you got to post.

You got 'em, JB. :) I saw the last diagram in the stickies and for a guy (me) who's entire working career was in electricicality, it confused me. The first two are great.

For some reason the pics of the hull are not uploading. When the weather breaks I will pull her out for better pics.

Thanks for the diagram.
Do you guys know if all boats were 12V systems? I know some of the older cars were 6V and don't know if boats of the era followed suit.

The motor would determine the volts. I don't know if 6 volts were used or when 12 volt systems began in boats if 6 was ever in vogue .

Nice looking rig there. Like GA said, your motor will determin if it's 6 or 12 volts. Being a 52, if that's the motor year also it could be either or. The hard part if it is 6 volt is going to be finding 6 volt accessories. Your horn, lights, bilge pump etc...they will all work on 12 volts. The problem will be the motor. You will need a 6 volt battery for that. I had a 53 Johnson on one of my boats that was 6 volt. I wired it to a newer 12 volt battery. Worked OK for about a week. The starter spun like lightning.....until it grenaded into about a hundred pieces.

I'm sorry, old Islander. I had to chuckle a little. They do crank nice using a 12V battery with a 6V starter - for a little while. How would I know?

Re: 52 sc

I named her Doris after my Grandma. Was a very sweet lady whom I was very fond of.

I grew up looking at this boat day dreaming about it. We went around in a 14' lund fishing boat that was rotting away with a 9.9 johnson. Which did the job. The Starcraft got moved out from the garage cuz it was falling down under a pine tree where she sat till 97 when I dug her out. She had last been tagged in 76. A year after I was born. I brought her back and put in new decking and transom. I ended buying a 85 Johnson VRO 60hr (fresh rebuild) cuz I could't find a motor of her era. She handled the 60hr very well. I had about 20hrs on her. My old man and I had a fall out cuz of his drinking and such and I lost the boat. Found him years after to try and amend things (we did) and he died shortly after that. His guardian said my dad held onto something I might want. Said it was the only thing worth anything that my dad didn't loose or trade ext. It was Doris! If my memory serves me right she had a 50hr Johnson Seahorse on the back of her which was lost in a bad deal my dad made with a guy to fix it and when we went to the garage to see what was going on everything was gone. I brought her back once. Lost her. Got her back and now is time to bring her back to life again. But this time even better!
I am looking for a motor 52-54. Preferably Johnson but am open minded.
Sorry for the babbling but it is some of the history i know of this boat. I am really glad I found this community. Lots of great knowledge... Thanks.
