5200 Good for Weight-Bearing?

My new horn has an air pump that's pretty heavy for it's size. My plan was to cut a block of wood, use 5200 to glue the block to the side of the boat (inside, in the bow below "deck"). But once cut out the block and had the pump on it, I started to wonder. Is 5200 going to be strong enough to hold this weight in place? I've used it for smaller blocks that I use to put wire clips in with. But that doesn't work out to very much weight. This pump on the other hand, is pretty solid. Thoughts?

Ayuh,... 5200 is a Sealant, Not a Glue...

I'd use some sorta Epoxy...

Gorilla Glue would be my choice. It is gap filling and bonds ANYTHING! 100% waterproof. Duct tape it on till it cures and hope you NEVER want to remove it!!!

Re: 5200 Good for Weight-Bearing?

So I have another question about 5200 and figured I'd tack it on to this old thread instead of starting a new one.

How good does it adhere metal to fiberglass? I'm going to bolt my seat pedestals to my new floor. And I was going to also put a bunch of 5200 down too. But i'm wondering how much extra strength I'm really going to get from that. Or is the smooth metal going to be too smooth to grip? Then again, fiberglass is pretty smooth too, and it does a great job of sticking to that.

According to it's manufacturer, it's both.

Stick with Gorilla Glue or Epoxy.....as an adhesive

While the label may say it's both and adhesive and a sealant its primary purpose is that of a flexible, water resistant sealer. It's essentially like caulk for your boat, so you want to use it any where you think water may be able to intrude into a dry space. Most folks use it on through bolts in the transom and floor, or to fill/seal small gaps between sections of the hull. I'm sure gorilla glue is strong enough to hold the pump in place, but you may never get it off again, so bear that in mind. good luck.

When bolting something in place and using a flexible product like 5200, the 5200 is really doing nothing but sealing the gaps. By the time the bolted on object moves enough for the 5200 to use whatever strength it may have, the bolts have failed, it just has too much elongation.
