As the title says Ive got a 1953 Wizard Big 10 that is in serious need of both ignition coils. They look as if they've been under the ocean for 50 years! And they still barely work until it warms up!! Does anyone know of a good retrofit or cheap solution to replacing these coils? Thanks guys!

I believe Mercury was manufacturing Wizard brand motors for Western Auto in 1953. If I am correct, your motor's model number should be something like WG-7 or 7A, WH-7, WJ-7 or possibly WK-7. Those model numbers should directly cross-reference to Mercury models such as KG-7 or KH-7. Coils are available right here at the iboats store BUT you need to make sure which magneto you have because there were two possibilities: Phelon or Scintilla. FYI, I am not an expert and you really should post your model number if you can find it. Pictures might help also. Good luck!

Repeating that I am not an expert, just an old geezer who has been fooling with outboards since your 1953 model was new, I have found some info at oldmercs.com that may help you. The link below is their "K" model page that also contains a Wizard comparison chart. It is red-flagged for service and repair procedures ONLY because not all parts interchange. Might be worth an email or phone call to these folks before you spend any more money. Good luck!
