55 eVINRUDE FLEETWIN (got hot)

Hi! everyone,
Looking for your expertise again. A friend has a 55 evinrude 7.5 . He said it was quitting on him. When I started it to see if adjusting carb would help I noticed it isn't pumping any water. So I asked him how long he run it after it kept quitting on him and he said off and on all day. It pulls over very hard( I think from getting so hot) but it does start. My question is is it worth it to replace impeller or is the hard turning over a sign it won't last long.Model# 7518 Serial # 7514-08162. Thanks all. John

Step 1....check compression.

do a compression test, it " might " be worth an impeller, those motors are rugged .( the hard pulling could be due to the impeller)

Might have a broken shock absorber. That pushes the bearing housing up in to the water pump. And makes it very tight. You won't know till you get in there and look.

jmo, but 75 psi per hole +/- 10 % between cyls would be nice to see, more would be better obviously, much below that could be a worry. ( some small motors will run reliably at 60 psi tho)
