Hi Zerop
Your Chrysler is a 1970 model. The question if the motor was any good is irrelevent. This is true of all vintage motors. They were all good when new. The question is, how good is it now? Most outboards do not get enough hours on them to get mechanicly wore out. I am sure if you do a proper and thorough job of testing, servicing and making repairs you may find that you have to fine motors from which to choose.

Hey Alcan,
Thanks for the year info. What I was meaning if the motor was any good was that I wanted to know if their was any known problems that these motors had. And as far as the evinrude motor I have rebuilt the carb put all new fuel lines in it replaced the plugs, new fuel filter. I have not had time to do a compression test or try and get to the points to check them out. The problem that I am having with it is under wot the boat will only go an estimated 10 mph. The boat will not even plane out. I have checked the linkage on the carb and it is opening fully. The motor will start and idle fine and has smooth throttle response all the way to wot. but it just wont move ythe boat very fast. Any ideas on what to do is always appreciated.

Hi Zerop
There is a standard test/tune-up procedure that all OEM recomend. This is a linier system that allows tech's to diagnose, service and repair motors. When you take your motor in, they automaticly start at the begining, step #1 then step#2 and so on. When we do work in our own shops it is allways best if we follow the procedures also. This way we end up with a dependable (as possible) machine and don't miss something else that is also a problem or problem to be. Step#1 is a compression test. If you can not get the motor past this test there is no sence going any further. The only problem your going to have with the Chrysler is getting parts is not going to be as easy as the omc (in some cases). Also the mental anguish of the uneducated Chrysler bashers. It sounds to me like your evinrude is only running on one cyl. This may be due to cracked coils, etc. I would suggest that you obtain manuals for both motors. you may find copies at your local library. If not, the $35. price is well worth it.

i

I know that I need a fuel pump and water pump for the chysler and probably a carb rebuild. Does anyone know where I can find parts for this motor?

Im not an expert on Chrysler or Force motors.
But have had some expierence with both.
And I wouldnt care to own one.
Even if you get it to work perfectly you
will have a fair motor with a rapidly deminishing parts supply and a poor resale value.
the NAPA auto parts marine catalog has only 12 pages of combined Chrysler/Force parts and 67 pages of E/J parts dating back to the early 1950s.

The carb rebuild kit is about 12 bucks and the fuel pump rebuild kit is 9 bucks from napa. I didnt care much for the rebuild kit for the fuel pump because the valve seat gaskets were to big. I had to get those from a different place that has high shipping costs. If I were you I would rebuild the carb and replace the diaphram and gasket in the fuel filter and replace fuel hoses. All this is about 20 bucks. Put new plugs L82C. This is pretty cheap and isnt too difficult to do.
