Re: 55 hp chrysler
Hi Zerop
There is a standard test/tune-up procedure that all OEM recomend. This is a linier system that allows tech's to diagnose, service and repair motors. When you take your motor in, they automaticly start at the begining, step #1 then step#2 and so on. When we do work in our own shops it is allways best if we follow the procedures also. This way we end up with a dependable (as possible) machine and don't miss something else that is also a problem or problem to be. Step#1 is a compression test. If you can not get the motor past this test there is no sence going any further. The only problem your going to have with the Chrysler is getting parts is not going to be as easy as the omc (in some cases). Also the mental anguish of the uneducated Chrysler bashers. It sounds to me like your evinrude is only running on one cyl. This may be due to cracked coils, etc. I would suggest that you obtain manuals for both motors. you may find copies at your local library. If not, the $35. price is well worth it.

i
