My motor starts and runs. It cuts in and out and at times one cylinder seems to be lacking power. After running for a while it doesn't seem to get spark or enough spark, but I have not tested this. It gets to where it wont start and floods. One of my coils is cracked and I noticed when I got back from the lake I had left the key on. The coils were really hot and the cracked one was leaking resin with two drips. I am thinking that that coil is bad. I want to get the flywheel off so I can look at the points too. A new coil is just over a hundred dollars, so I was thinking of getting a used one for $40. Does anyone know what the resistance of the coil is for a 1971 Chrysler 55 hp outboard points no cd ignition? I want to check mine first, and then the used one when I go to purchase it. Thanks John. Also is there parts that might make the coils heat up and burn out like maybe bad points? Just want to make sure I fix the problem and not the result of the problem.
