55 HP Johnson runs fine at Idle,won't run in gear.

1977 55HP Johnson. I cleaned the carbs,replaced fuel lines,fresh gas,rebuilt fuel pump and put in new plugs. It runs fine in the yard with muffs on,it runs fine "in gear" ,but idles kinda slow in the lake,and dies quickly when I put in it gear. Could it be the throttle needs adjustment? I am waiting on my owners manual but it'll be about a week or so before I get. Any help or suggestions would be most appreiated.<br /> JB

Nashvilletitans.... On a flushette, that engine's idle should be set at 1000 rpm.

well heres what i found out i have a 1975 merc 85 hp runs sweet on muffs take it to the water ruind till u put it in gear then shuts right down.. i thought fuel something was set wrong then i plug a few plug wires with it running and found 2 cyls were not firing.. thats why it dies only running on 2 lol... and it sounded like a new motorat the house

Nashvilletitans , are there any idle mix adjust screws on your carbs or are they fixed orifices?

They are fixed,at least don't see any adjustments on them. Thanks<br /> JB
