55hp over revving after carb rebuild

Hi there, just re built and cleaned out the carbs on my 1978 55hp Evinrude. All went back together ok, started her up and she immediately over revved all the way up to near max. I shut off, tried 3 more times but every time it was just revving straight up to max with no throttle! Butterflies closed on the carbs so the thing should just be idling. Now this is clearly something to do with my carb re-build but what could it be? I can't fire her up because it will just over rev and nuke the motor. There were a few bits left over in the carb kit that I didnt use. I used an 18-7042 kit.
What could be causing this? Any help would be much appreciated.
I noticed the hose coming from the engine block to the fuel pump, vacum hose I think to run the fuel pump? Anyway this had split so I put a new hose on. Apart from that it was just the carb rebuild.
Very depressed now,
cheers

Has anyone got any ideas? Any help would be great as I am at a loss with this one? I checked again and the throttles on the carbs appear stiff, they are closed though so I am guessing an air leak somewhere?
Thanks

Sounds to me like maybe the carb linkage is hooked up wrong. Might pay to check that before you tear the carb apart again.

Yeah that is the thing I have been thinking in work today whilst day dreaming. It's my first carb service so it stands to reason I have something out of place. I took photos before I dismantled so will re check, hope it is that simple! Thanks for the advice

Re: 55hp over revving after carb rebuild

Got home today and took the throttle links off and lo and behold she fired and idled away at normal revs. Phew. Stupid me. Just need to put it back together now. Bottom carbs throttle still stiff though, may need some oil on the mechanism or something.
Still idles like a bucking bronco though. After a fuel pump rebuild, carb rebuild and de carb, looks like she is just a rough idler!
Cheers
