Hi there, just re built and cleaned out the carbs on my 1978 55hp Evinrude. All went back together ok, started her up and she immediately over revved all the way up to near max. I shut off, tried 3 more times but every time it was just revving straight up to max with no throttle! Butterflies closed on the carbs so the thing should just be idling. Now this is clearly something to do with my carb re-build but what could it be? I can't fire her up because it will just over rev and nuke the motor. There were a few bits left over in the carb kit that I didnt use. I used an 18-7042 kit.
What could be causing this? Any help would be much appreciated.
I noticed the hose coming from the engine block to the fuel pump, vacum hose I think to run the fuel pump? Anyway this had split so I put a new hose on. Apart from that it was just the carb rebuild.
Very depressed now,
cheers
