just bought this motor. Fired it up today and it ran good. It pumped water good but water was also coming out from somewhere out the bottom of the cylinder head. It looks like there might be a core or freeze plug at the bottom in a cylindrical casting pointing directly down on the head or out the gasket. If there is a plug can it be replace?

Also, what color were the origanal coils? I looked at mine and they were light green.

Light green coils are prob. replacement Sierra coils. They are not original. If they are not cracked, they are prob. fine. I seen somewhere, where a guy had to replace his water jacket plug, you should be able to find one. Laings Outboards might have one.

Those core plugs are replaceable, seen it happen before. You'll find the part # in the correct parts book or else at an old Evinrude dlr.

306442 core plug is available from any Evinrude dealer. Order and replace all three of them while you are at it. No, you do NOT have to remove the cylinder head. The belly pan is in two pieces, remove the rear half. Only about 3 screws hold it. Study it and you can figure out which three.

My local Johnson dealer couldn't locate any core plugs. I called Sea Way Marine in Seattle and they had over a hundred he said. They will be here by the end of the week. Don't worry I didn't buy them all. I left some for you peoples who want to save some of these gems too.

I just measure the ID of the hole and went to an auto store, pretty standard stuff.

bk has a better auto parts store than we have. I went to find a core plug and they had about three total in stock--all the wrong size.

BK, where'd you go?

Benson's in Carleton Place, they have a box of every size possible. F_R your auto store sounds like Canadian Tire here in Canada, everytime I go in "we show 5 in stock but I can't find it"
