im looking to change the starter rope on this beast, and it looks like the rope is held by a roll pin.?
the vids i watched all had a knot thru a hole holding the rope on, so before i knock this pin out i was just hoping to confirm the procedure.

I do knot believe the rope is held by that roll pin.----Just use a knot.-----Make sure the rope goes between that pin and the pulley.

So you agree ?----The picture does not look correct.-----You put tight knot on one end of rope.------Once pulley is in place you put the pointy end of the rope into the hole .-----Make sure rope goes between pin and pulley.-----Tension the spring as needed.-----Make sure arrow on pulley lines up when handle is on.

Different folks have different ways, I guess. See the little about 1/8" dia hole in the pulley? Find a nail or something that will fit through that hole and set it aside where you can reach it later. With everything cleaned up and assembled ready for the rope, rotate the pulley to wind up the spring all the way, then back off one turn. Now stick that nail into the hole. That will prevent the spring from unwinding. As said, tie a single overhand knot in the end of a new rope, then insert the other end into the hole and behind the pin, and out the starter housing snout. Hang onto the rope and remove the nail, letting the spring to pull the rope in. Install the handle with marks aligned.

Warning, during all this, do not turn loose of the pulley and let the pulley/spring fly back uncontrolled. Doing so will cause a backlash which will destroy the spring. That is the reason for the nail, to hold it until you get the rope installed.

sorry i meant it was as you said. what happened is POs knot wasnt up thru the hole. it was down inside the pulley up against the roll pin, down in there. it looked like the roll pin was holding it. i took a long allen wrench and fished the knot out and took the pic.

i havent bought the parts yet but plan to order them this weekend. the spring is sprung and the bolts to put it back on are lost. i need a handle too.
