having trouble adjusting the carb needles, once i find the sweet spot on where they should be adjusted, as i rev the motor the needles start turning,

also one of the needles looks like it has been pressed in too far and the end has a blunt edge? could i sharpen it myself and just make appropriate adjustments on the knobs of should i get new ones? anyone know where I could pick up new needles and packing?

Are the needles leaking? Sure fire sign the packing is toast. If not , the collar around the needle with the nut end is what hold them in place, too tight and you can't adjust, too loose and they move with vibration, tighten yours up and retry. Low speed needle is blunt, high speed is sharp, could be fine.

the packing is toast now that im looking at these new ones here on ebay. mine probably have not been replaced since the 50's

and thanks for letting me know that one needle is suppose to be blunt and one sharp . i thought i had damaged it~

Except BK got it backwards, accidently I'm sure. The blunt one is the lower one (high speed). The sharp pointy one is the upper one, (slow speed).

Ya I did, I had to retype as my computer froze and I lost my train of thought, what F_R said. Upper needle is sharp, lower blunt. Low speed sharp/high speed blunt I meant.
