Got parts and extended shaft length. took out for testing, experimenting with tilt settings to see what happened at what setting, in doing the install I
spaced up the motor 1.5 inches to keep the cav. plate 1.5 inches below the
bottom of the boat . I noticed that while on plane the bulge in the leg where
water pump is located was about an inc or 2 above the water line. was still pumping water though. should I just remove the spacer and keep the pump
housing down? cav. plate would then be 3 inches below bottom of the boat.
next hiccup on this motor. At the end of the last run at throttle down to idle
it sounded as though someone dumped a box of marbles under the shroud.
motor began missinsg then would not hold an idle, missing badly.Fearing
a major internal failure I trolled back to the ramp on the bow mount electric.
Once at home, first thing was a comp check, still 120 per cyl. further checks revealed that the fly wheel was loose,I was able to rock it ever so slightly,
removed recoil and was able to loosen the nut by hand. checked crank and fly
wheel tapers with the edge of a feeler guage. surfaces still true. noted a small spot spaulded, could see it but barely feel it. picked up lapping compound and cleaned up pretty nice. am ordering a key monday, put together with origional key and torqued to spec.60/65 ft. lb.
going to put in barrel now to see if it runs as before failure.
Looked at timer plate, coils and the such to see any signs of rubbing that
would have created that rattling marble sound. no signs of any rubbing.
Sorry for the long read.
