57 evinrude big twin 35 won't idle

I have the elec start. When I start the motor I give it some gas and it stays running but if I bring throttle back to about the start setting heading towards slow it dies. Any thoughts or how can I adjust?

what have you done so far to the motor? ignition carb etc? dont pay to much attention to the markings on the tiller. jmo

I have the simplex control box and I have done everything.

Have you done a linc n sync? You use the pointer, not the roller on this model.

What is the idle set at?

Yes I did a link n sync with the pointer. I'm not sure how to set the idle, but I'm guessing I set it with the low speed carb needle?

No at the bottom of the control lever, port side of motor, there is the idle adjustment screw. #43 here, on the Exhaust tube and swivel bracket page.
