'57 Lark has no reverse. Locks in, spins, doesn't go.

I've been using a '57 Evinrude Lark outboard on a Glasspar G3. The linkages are fine, and it locks into reverse well, but when I throttle up I end up sitting in a cloud of exhaust gas and not going anywhere. Any idea what might cause this?

thanks

Do you mean it spins like it's in neutral? Have you tried disconnecting the remotes and shifting right at the outboard?

I would say it's your gear set assembly in the lower unit Probably has messed for the last time.
had the same thing happen.
One of the gears broke in half.
Good luck

Check your lower unit oil
If milky white you got water mixed in there.
Gearcase oil should be changed every season.
Just to be safe.

Is this something new that has happened recently? Most outboards are terribly inefficient in reverse because the prop sucks exhaust. If that is not what you mean, and if forward is OK, then you have serious linkage and/or lower unit trouble.
