Re: 58 Evinrude Fastwin 18

Got a friend that works for Jonson/Evinrude dealer that has been in business for over 50 years. He has a shed full old/donor motors. He has been very helpful so far. We'll see. That manual is awsome. Thanks

Hey W. Beaton, Your avitar brings back memories.

1st my grandpaw had a 10 hp like that and retired to Rockport, TX. He kept the boat, a 14' planked skiff at the boat basin there. In the summer months my older sis and I would go down there and spend time. Moments to cherish I assure you.

Later in life had a guy from Holley Grove, Arkansas that had kin on the White River there and near Clarendon. (Can't believe I'm remembering these names after roughly 50 years of lying dormant.)

In short, got an invite there and the Johnny your picture, in 3 and 5 1/2 hp were the engines of choice at that time on the 14' john boats of river lore. Will never forget the experience and couldn't possibly happen today as a result of the high powered boats......but the black and silver 6 hp Marlin was there too and it was the hotrod of the day.

Hey Texasmark, that was probably a Martin 40, an under-rated 4 hp, or a Martin 60, also under-rated at 6 or 7.5 hp. Some time ago I read an article about George Martin, he was still kicking and doing well. He designed those Martin motors and got them marketed through...are you ready for this?...the National Pressure Cooker company.

tm it must have been the 60 cause it would plane out a river john with 3 folks and gear in it.

Didn't mean to distract the thread, but somethings you just can't help sometimes. Grin

Start your own, new thread, Dennis. Hijacking old threads is very bad manners.
