Re: '58 Fast Twin 18hp has pushed all my buttons! I'm over it.
Mate i know how you are feeling. i had a 67' fastwin ,very similar , i just took things slow first i cleaned carbie, i didn't muck around with jets and needles just diped the carbie and bowl in some kero,re assmbled it and i checked reedswhile i was at it , the way to tell if your reeds are crook is to blow on them with your lips sealing the edges and if it sounds like a kazoo its ok, next i looked at ignition i took the stator off and revmoved all parts, gave them a wash in kero reassembled them as the most minute peice of dirt can bugger up the lot. next i took the head off and made shure cylinders were neat and tidy. If i were you i wouldnt worry about electric start til last once it has started. i know it is hard work to pull but i found with my fastwin with the lever in lock position a two hand pull is very easy. once it starts then you wory about extras like elec start and gear box. take your time and dont give up! those fastwins are great motors when they work.
