Mate i know how you are feeling. i had a 67' fastwin ,very similar , i just took things slow first i cleaned carbie, i didn't muck around with jets and needles just diped the carbie and bowl in some kero,re assmbled it and i checked reedswhile i was at it , the way to tell if your reeds are crook is to blow on them with your lips sealing the edges and if it sounds like a kazoo its ok, next i looked at ignition i took the stator off and revmoved all parts, gave them a wash in kero reassembled them as the most minute peice of dirt can bugger up the lot. next i took the head off and made shure cylinders were neat and tidy. If i were you i wouldnt worry about electric start til last once it has started. i know it is hard work to pull but i found with my fastwin with the lever in lock position a two hand pull is very easy. once it starts then you wory about extras like elec start and gear box. take your time and dont give up! those fastwins are great motors when they work.

geekomatic,

On pic # 26 I think I can see a part #, its on the flat part of the bracket towards the top, its painted over,

Its on the same side of the starter motor with th terminal with the red spray paint (+ term. I guess)

http://photobucket.com/albums/y18/geekomatic/?action=view&current=P4241224.jpg

I can't make out the first # but the others look like 03340.

Give it a look & let me know if I'm just seein' things,
Mike ;)

Alden,Yup.That bracket's been off the motor for awhile. It was heated up while in a vise.

OMCFreak- I thank you for the tips, but that electric starter has got to work. Otherwise I have to walk to the back of the boat to start her, then walk all the way to the front of the boat to drive her. Too much movement. I could spill a beer, for God's sake! Real trouble then!

Itstippy- I actually contacted the seller of the brackets when he first listed them. Nothing like mine, unfortunately, but thanks for looking out!

Officer MCM, I be damned if I didn't actually find that part number you've spotted. I cannot believe I never saw it.
It's 203940. I feel like a total idiot now...
I did manage to find someone in my area that can weld aluminum. I'll be taking the bracket to him next week. In the meantime, If anybody happens to come across one of these things, I've got my checkbook handy. Thanks everybody!

And I appreciate that effort! I won't believe it's fixed until I actually use it.
