Sam, I do not have any photos. When I dreamed the thing up, digital photos weren't invented. The liquid I recovered using the system was a heavy oil mix. I used to mix it with fresh fuel to burn it up, but eventually it started to get water mixed in and was unburnable. I estimate I recovered about 1 gal in 6 of fuel.

1 in 6 gallons recovery is incredibly good. I cant believe the engineers didn't build it in back then... Must have been 'cause gas was cheap and nobody cared about pollution... I think I'll try it :)

Steve, Those early V4 motors did not have any recirculation systems. As such, liquids would build up in the crancakse which led to idleing problems. The fat-Fifty bleed system was designed to help the motors idle smoothly, and it was pretty effective. If you look at the fuel recirculation on my '93 Merc V6, it is a set of 6 one way valves and six hoses which reprocess unburned fuel. It is fairly sophsticated.

The early OMC designers simply didn't have a better idea, than to dump the unburned stuff overboard.

I'd also be interested in what the bulletin said. What kind of mods are they? Does it capture or recycle the dumped fuel?

It involves carburetor modifications. PM me your e-mail address if you want a copy.

If you mess with the ignition the plug wires are screwed into the cap.Don't try to pull them out.Often thought of as heavy its actually only 205lbs.

Bringing back an old topic. Just to let you guys know, I was finally able to put the boat on the water for its maiden voyage (with me). I had the impeller and gear oil changed, and I put in a new fuel pump diaphram kit.
I was really impressed with how well it ran, but I was very surprised to see there was no oil slick around the motor at all, not even after a long time idling. I can only guess that someone must have updated the carb and eliminated the fuel by-pass line to the exhaust. It didn't load up at all while idling. I didn't take the time to tweak the idle or high speed mixture screws, so that will have to wait for the next time out.
The old Fat Fifty got that heavy wood boat up on plane in about 3 seconds:D

I can't see the oil line in your photos. On mine it's below the starter behind the wiring up tight to the engine block. That oil has to go somewhere, either down the exhaust or into a collection container.

I've looked where I was told I should find it, but there's no line there. Just lucky I guess.:D
