I have a 58 gale 35hp bucc. Been doing a lot of work lately on the boat and motor. Finally got it on the water yesterday to test for about 1.5 hrs. motor ran fine idled good seamed to run good accept just don't think it's hitting the higher rpm's. I did try adjusting the high speed at full throttle but didn't seem to help much. I do not have an rpm gauge and Do not have money getting one now to check. I know you guys would need this number but can just tell it's not hitting the higher rpm's. When I first acquired the boat last yr previous owner had throttle linkage set screw set really low so you had maybe half usable throttle. All i did before was made sure throttle arm was turned to idle then readjusted set screw just 1/8 or so from the throttle arm. When I did this I didn't know at the time that there was a timing advance plate adjustment could this be off? also I seen that it has a fuel saver linkage how does this effect motor or is this the same thing as timing adj? also The boat will get up on plane no problem with in 3-4 seconds.

Re: 58 gale rpm's.

You have to set that linkage correctly if you expect it to run right.

1. Disconnect the remote control cable, if any.

2. With motor in forward gear (not running) manually operate the throttle toward "fast" till the magneto armature plate goes all the way to the stop block on top of the cylinder. That is full spark advance.

3. With the throttle in that position, the arm on the vertical shaft should just touch the barrel/setscrew part on the carburetor linkage rod. Adjust it if that isn't happening.

4. Continued movement of the throttle will open the carburetor to wide open position.

5. If remote control is used, adjust the control cable to fit the motor, do not adjust the motor to fit the cable.

If you still aren't getting full power (like half speed), consider the motor may be running on one cylinder.

Re: 58 gale rpm's.

Thanks very much F_R. Did adjustment like you said. Took her out and did some northern fishing this evening but with 20mph winds with a smaller boat it was hard to tell. motor seemed to run well though. One thing I noticed is the plastic insert in vert throttle rod is getting wore out and has some play so will need to be replaced. Thanks again.
