If you've had to put the high speed jet on max lean for it to run well, it sounds like you're running too rich for some reason. If you've completely closed the high speed jet (turned it in with the lever or knob off (remove the screw) until it stops, then the carb must be leaking internally.

Follow Joe Reeves directions for setting up the carb:

If you still have to bottom out one of the adjustments, or something doesn't seem correct (ie, a control doesn't seem to 'do much'), the carb will likely need to be rebuilt. It's far better to clean it mechanically by rebuilding it than relying on a cleaning agent, as you can be certain about it's cleanliness, and you can update the various rubber and cork components to modern fuel tolerant materials.

As always your advice is top notch Paul. When following these instructions do I need to have the prop on? Right now I have the prop removed and the motor in a drum.
Sp

Yes, all adjustments are done in the water and under load. Naturally, it'll have to be on the boat for the high speed adjustments. Never ever rev the engine without a load, as it can easily run-away on you.
