58 super seahorse battery

How many cold cranking amps would I need to start this motor I have a deep cycle type battery now and it won't fully turn the motor over it's very choppy.

CLEAN all the connections with a wire brush until they are shiny clean. Then try it. If the wires are really old (like original) green with corrosion, you may need to replace them.

Those starters during that era were not the most powerful ever made. Everything has to be in top condition. If you pull the starter apart, you probably will find solder thrown from the communtator from lugging it with weak battery or poor cables/connections. If you have to replace the starter, consider one from a newer model. They are longer, and require a support bracket at the bottom end.

Ok great thanks. I cleaned and replaced some Terminals and wire and it seems to be cranking fast now thanks for the help.
