I'm in the process of rebuilding the carburator for my 1958 Super Seahorse 35 hp.. RDSL-20. I found that the high speed needle is a bit scarred. I was wondering if anyone ever tried polishing the needle with lapping compound? There is a guide sleeve that is threaded onto the needle that should keep things centered. The carb worked 7 years ago, but it wasn't quite right and difficult to adjust. I think this might have been the problem. The needle doesn't need much polishing, but I'm hoping for a perfect, starts every time motor when I get finished. Thoughts?
Thanks
Tom

I put mine in the lathe and skimmed a few thou off it, just enough to remove the scarring and keeping the angle the same of course, it seems to work fine.

Thanks petrol,
I haven't got a lathe but I'll figure something out. I was just thinking that the lapping compound idea probably wouldn't work. I doubt that the hole that the needle fits into is tapered. If it were, there probably wouldn't be a problem with the needle in the first place.
Tom
