Found a powerhead which almost looks new, no burnt paint and very little grease.($74.00 delivered) Decided to give up on trying to find a piston and rings for mine after scouring the top cyl. This new PH came off a GG9002B also but the crankshaft isn't like mine where the armature plate (or whatever you call it) fits over the crank on top, mine has a 1.155 dia. collar up to the keyway, where the armature plate slides over and bolts on, the new one has a .800 straight shaft up to the keyway on the crank. Now, what kind of a problem would I run into if I were to take my crank and replace the new PH crank with it? I am surprised that the same model no's would have different parts, unless this PH is off a motor that did not have FNR. Looks like they would have different model no's on forward neutral reverse and then straight gearing. If that was or is the case would the pistons be same size, one with FNH as a no clutch motor?

Am not going to tear into it until next week. Hope I have explained the situation well enough, do have pictures but not smart enough to attach. Thanks guys.

I'm betting they used different ignition systems. Is the "collar" cam ground? One may have used the earlier Johnson TD-20 style magneto, while the other used the OMC universal mag. I don't think you'd have an issue swapping cranks if the mag plate bosses all look the same.

Thanks for your reply, just returned home or would have sent reply sooner. I will probably change the cranks within the next couple days and will let you know how I came out. Thanks again......

Just couldn't wait, went out to the garage and put the crank in the newer power head and all works fine, is a little tight if I tighten the nut down on the mag too much, still tight but not where you would have trouble getting the nut off. Will put the PH on the lower unit the next day or so and put it in the barrel and see what I got.

Thanks for your input Chinewalker, appreciate.........
