I purchased this motor new in 1962 or 1963,and have not run it since it locked up during a fishing trip in 1965.It pulls through, but will not start.I do not have the manual, and wonder if anyone can advise who manufactured this motor. The only numbers I can find are on a small metal tag on the engine which reads "643-05 and 6046965"
Is the gas/oil ratio 16:1? Thanks for any help

Re: 5hp sears motor

I believe that was made by Eska. 643-05 is the Tecumseh engine model number. If I'm not mistaken, the other number is the Tecumseh part number for a complete engine. It should run 16:1

Bill Brix has a lot of Eska and private label Eska information on his website. Brix Enterprises Web Site

If it seems to have decent compression, I would check for spark. Points sets are cheap enough for these, and available at the local hardware store. If spark is ok, then check out the carburetor. These things are notorious for carburetor problems. Fixing the carburetors on the 3 Eskas I own is like having a second job. ;)

If it's the same motor I'm thinking, the carb kit part number is 631373. The only place I've been able to find them is Richardson Saw and Lawnmower in Richardson, Texas. Richardson Saw The kit costs about $11.
