5HP tappet valve clearance?

Hi, I have just rebuilt a 2004 5HP four stroke. Does anybody know the correct tappet clearance for this engine?

No....don't know the number just off the top of my head....but I'd be real interested in why the rebuild and why ya' ain't got the service manual for the engine.

Hi, and thanks for the welcome.
I have just bought the engine of ebay in bits, -small bits- the previous owner told me the motor ran for 1 month from new and then fell into salt water, it was recovered and flushed with fresh water and sent to the dealer who stripped it down and for unknown reasons didnt rebuild it (i suspect the guy thinks its covered under warranty and didnt want to pay!!!) anyway it then lived in his shed in bits until i came along. Its all built now, i just need to know the gap for the tappets and im away.

Ball park figures-wild guess.. .001 on the intakes, .003 on the exhaust

Instead of guessing, why not call BRP's customer service 800 #?

Actually todays motors seem to have the specs on the engine decal.But to guess ..... .004 & .006

thanks for the replies, i rang a local johnson agent ( i live in the Leeds, uk) he was just about to close shop and couldnt find the book but promised me the answer tomorrow. i tried to run it at 0.015 in/out to start with (ran Very V ruff) and ive got it down to 0.006 in and out. its alot better but it still runs a little ruff.
i dont wont to go to far with them incase i bounce a valve on MR Piston. lol

Got it. they are both between 0.003 to 0.007 metric measured cold.
