6.2L Bravo II seawater pump out of alignment?

Hi
I have a 2004 6.2L Mercruiser with Bravo II drive. Ser #OM695430 The serpentine belt is wearing prematurely and you can see the black dust on the engine compartment. The tension is correct but the seawater pump pulley looks out of alignment to me as it does not run lined up with the other pulleys. It does not look like there is any way to adjust the pump alignment. The pump seems to be fine and the bearing is not gone. Anybody know why, or if there is a way to tweak it? Thanks

The pulley is a press fit on the shaft. Might need to adjust it?

^^+1, and will add if it needs to go further, simply press it in further after removal of assembly and removal of the pump housing. If it needs to come out (off the shaft) some, need to pick up what is called a pulley remove/install puller. Don't try to do it without the puller. The tool is a good thing to have around for all kinds of pulleys.

I was told by the shop that repairs my boat when theres something I can't handle, is to take a piece of white clothsline and wrap it around all the pullys in the outer most groove than stand on a chair and look down at the clothsline from overhead and you'll see which way the pully needs to be moved.It worked for me !

Thanks guys. I guess I wasn't clear though. The pulley is at the right depth on the shaft. The entire pump is mounted slightly askew so that it does not run along the same axis as the other pulleys. I need to figure a way to straighten the pump out so that the pulley runs in line with the others. Does that make more sense?

Your saying the pulley is tilted slightly?

Yes, because the whole pump is tilted slightly. I will try to get a pic this afternoon.

Your pump should have a single cast mounting bracket. If everything is tight and the pulley is not wobbling, the bracket must be bent and needs replacing.

Also make sure the pump pulley shaft is not loose by way of moving in and out. Some of these pumps the shafts bearing assembly have an tendency to come apart.

Good call. Started to pull the pump and one of the back bolts is missing completely. It had the impeller changed 2 years ago and I guess the mechanic lost or couldn't get the bolt and so just left it out. I'll see what happens when I get a replacement and snug the thing down. Thanks All.
