6 - 9.9 Mercury Kicker Motor Hook Up

What would be the proper hook up for a small hp Mercury outboard as a kicker motor?It has a tiller.Would you run the battery cables to the running outboard.I have the mount fabricated already.Where should I put it? Any suggestions?or maybe another forum.
