I am in the process or replacing the electric wire from the back of the boat to the front for the troling motor (18 feet long). The 12 volts Minn Kota Powerdrive V2 55 installation manual ask for a #6 gauge wire.

Where can I order the proper wire for the job ?

Thank you

Any electrical wholesale would have it. Home improvements stores should too. A stranded wire rated for burial should be o.k.

I did, but there was only 3 wires in it. I don't know if
I need stranded wire or just one big copper wire or 3 like the one I saw.

Thx

Are there only two wires that are needed?

A #6 THHN wire will have a bunch of small copper wires twisted together and covered in a sheath. You should use the stranded wire.

I think the wire you are talking about with the 3 wires is a romex type, 2 conductor wire. That means it has 2 #6 stranded wires individually coated and a solid ground all wrapped together. This is used mostly in AC home wiring for 220 volt curcuits. If you only need the #6 wires, then use the ones that have a bunch of little wires wrapped together.

So, you need to know how many #6 wires you need. If you need 3, then you need to get another #6 stranded wire.

I will need two #6 guage stranded THHN cable, one for Positive and one for the Nagative.

Now I just need to search online for a good place to buy that cable.

Thx again....

You should not be using THHN wire. It is for household/commercial wiring and not intended for marine use. Any farm store, department store that sells boatiing supplies, or any marine outlet (Cabelas or Bass Pro) has what you need in kit form. It even includes the male and female connectors.

i bought mine at the local farm supply store because it was cheaper than NAPA. i bought a 50 ft spool in black and the a roll of red electrcians tape. i wrapped the ends of 1 piece with the red for about 3 ft on each end. it was a lot cheaper than buying 2 50 ft spools to get 1 black and 1 red.

Home depot and Lowes carries stranded 6 ga by the foot. (Around 90 cents/foot.)
You can also just go to Wall-Mart and get their 4 ga 20' jumper cables. Works great for this application and costs $27.

I'll second Ebay for buying the 6ga marine grade wire, about $1/foot.
