I bought a 1986 Mercury motor that has only about 50 hrs on it. I replaced the impeller, and the motor looks like it was just bought. It ran perfect for trolling last year at the beginning of the season, then it started where it was stalling out quite frequently while trolling. I have to pull the choke lever out about 25% of the way for it to run good enough to troll. it runs fine with partial or full throttle with the choke all the way opened, but I still have to partially choke it to keep running in order to troll on very slow idle.

I have a manual for the motor that indicates a gas filter, but I do not see one on the motor. I see a screen and that is it, but the manual shows a screen and a filter. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thanks guys. I will definitely do that with the crab and also the fuel pump gaskets and diaphragm. The motor sat a long time without running, that's for sure Still cannot locate the fuel filter that the manual indicates should be there. I think I will add an in line filter that is on the gas intake line going into the motor. I have done that I the past on a different motor and it worked out great for me.

Thanks flyingscott, but I am really computer illiterate. LOL I have no idea of how to post a picture. Right now, as a matter of fact, I feel like a real idiot. I went out to my garage to get the service manual for the motor I am inquiring about so I can post the model number here, and it is actually an Evinrude and not even a Mercury like I said. Sorry. I did not mean to mis- lead anyone. I bought the thing last year, used it all season and forgot what the heck I bought. Can not see the motor as it is over my son's house in his basement. No fun getting old!

I will try to remove my original post here soon. I suppose I still will follow the advise that I received here since it probably applies to any motor whether it is a Rude or Merc. Sorry again guys. It certainly was not intentional.

For this problem the brand doesn't matter, so you probably got the right answers either way.
