How much do you weigh? How heavy is your boat? When I was 13, I had a 3.9hp mercury that would plane me in a 14ft., 36" duracraft. A 6hp johnson was just awesome. However, I weigh almost twice as much now and a 6hp johnson would have to really be running nice to even think about getting me up on plane (I weigh about 225 lbs.). My 7.5hp evinrude will plane me in my 14 foot duracraft, but just barely.
Hope this helps,
JBJ

You can push it fairly well with a 5 pitch prop; you won't get a high top end, but it will handle OK.

Prop would be #386587 - sea-way.com might have one.
