I asked this question the other day and got one smartass response, so I'll ask again. I was useing My engine the other day and it died. I cleaned the carburator throughly. Put it back together and it ran ok for about 20 minutes or so. Now it will only run with the choke on full, Any thoughts? 1976 Johnson 6 horse power.

Assuming you assembled and adjusted it correctly. (You probably did if it ran Ok for a while.)

The carb is still not clean or some muck as come through into it again. carefully clean all the jets and passges. Poke a soft copper wire through the jets. Very little doubt if it runs on choke but not without.

Check the filter and the tank for debris

Why do you dismiss the previous reply as a "Smartarse response"

What did the private message say?

Re: 6 Horse power Johnson

The reason that I considerered it a smartarse response was this and I quote. "You have a PM." I take that to mean you have a problem, no kidding I have a problem, that is whay I am asking a question. Back to the original question, I am going to retake the carb back off, and reclean it, I assume that a replacement float can be bought so I am going to replace it also. I also took the fuel pump off and cleaned it. The screen was ok. Now I am wondering if it is put back together correctly. anyone have an exploded view of how it is assembled? Or any advice?

"You have a PM" means "you have a Private Message!

It does not mean, "you have a problem."

I suggest a little less "tude" - the folks here are actually pretty nice on an almost universal basis, and can be of a great deal of help if you listen to them.

You will find an exploded diagram that may be helpful among the BRP Parts diagrams

Checked that PM yet it was from one of the better guys who answers questions on here. (Click on "Private messages" top RH corner)

PS when you've fixed the motor read the forum FAQs

Hey, no harm no foul. I have been known to get confused a time or two myself. I happen to have an identical motor and was just gonna offer some private tutoring. Hope you get it fixed.
