Re: 6 HP Evinrude Issues ( I am a Newbie)

Hi Grant, thanks, Yes the disc moves freely and all the way. The throttle is fully open at max. We checked the plugs, they are both warm, but the second one is quite hot. When we pop the lead off either one, the motor wants to stall, but doesn't. I am guessing that both are doing there job.
Any More Ideas?
Dean

Did you happen to check the fuel pump? Which one is the second one, the top or bottom plug? When you've got it running on one cylinder, does it run the same rpms on the top and on the bottom one?

The spark plugs ought to get pretty scalding hot during normal running.

(I'm still scratching my head on the 12hp...)

Re: 6 HP Evinrude Issues ( I am a Newbie)

Weather finally got improved enough for me to get the lake... remember I had a 6hp that acted similar to yours... had cracked coils so I put new coils, points and plugs in it... I hoped that would smooth it out and bring the power back.

Upshot is that it seems to run a bit smoother... it doesn't develop a miss and stall once it gets warm now (idled for hours continuously on sat). BUT... it still seems down on top end power.... I pulled the carb and went through it... no debris/clogs. But it still has the cork type float, and there's a bit of a wear groove around the needle valve so maybe between an old cork float and a worn needle, it's running too rich on the high end (?). I will get a carb kit and put that in next time I go out.

Anyway, it doesn't help you, but that's the update I meant to post.

Brent
