Just aquired the boat, been in inside storage for 6 years, 30 days outside during June 2012. (In the Sacramento, Calif area.)
Oil is clean. Fuel is red....smells funny. (15 gallons to get rid of!) Pulled the plugs, and water came out of 2 cylinders that were at top dead center, on opposite sides of engine. Those two plugs were rusted out pretty good. Rotated engine by hand, a little water in a couple other cylinders. I'd estimate about 5 tablespoons. Block and manifolds are bone dry. Engine was completely covered.
Question: Anyone think condensation is a possibility? (Yet no water evident in oil?)
Will pull manifolds and check tomorrow with the acetone trick. Logic tells me, however, that 6 years inside with the manifolds completely dry....the cylinders would have been dry as well? Inside valve covers is very clean. Slight surface rust in places.
Possibility: Fuel tank is in the bow, higher than the engine. Carb appears wet from fuel....perhaps fuel drained back slowly, flooding carb, and down the intake? But....liquid appeared clear. Couldn't tell by the smell, fumes were already all around from fuel draining. Seems it would go past the rings and the crankcase would be full of red fuel though.....thoughts anyone???
