Thanks everyone for your feedback, I guess I'm going to head out this weekend and start looking at some of these boats in person. I better take the gf with me since she's the judge and jury, course we're not married so it might come down to her or the boat, hmm, which is more important :)

Gotta agree with JB and TD...:D

Dingbat- I've read that the saltwater series actually just have a little bit more stainless steel hardware than the freshwater...but I agree it's mostly hype.

My dad's 24' Seaswirl Striper walkaround(another make/model to consider as well) came with a 225 Yamaha Saltwater series and the closest it's getting to salt is when I bring preztels onboard:p

I didn't to read about it. I?ve lived it. ;) Currently have Evinrude Ocean Pro bolted to my transom. Infact this is the second ?Saltwater series? I've owned.

"Saltwater series" typically sport a SS prop shaft and stainless thermostats. Unfortunately, neither of these components are responsible for 95% of the terminal failures. If you somehow manage to keep a SW motor in one piece long enough you typically end up with block eaten up from the inside out.

The prop shaft and stats on my motor still look like new. Too bad the water passages are so eaten up that it's getting hard to get a head gasket to seal anymore. Sooner than later it's going to let go and I'll blow the motor from water intrusion.

Sounds like it's a good thing your making good use of the Evinrude before it cashes its chips.:D Isn't there any way to flush all that salt out? Also have you had non-saltwater/ocean for comparison? That would really be the way to know I'd say.

We've had nothing but great luck with the 225 yammie salwater in the great lakes so I'd recommend them since they will last long enough to want the SS on there.

I can imagine people that only use an outboard once or twice a year but leave it in salwater wasting that much $$ I'd bet the electronics will be the first thing to go on a new Evindure DFI 2 stroke 60hp being ran in strictly freshwater and stored dry. We will find out in 10 years or so:D

It's not the corrosion that eats up the passage ways in a salt run motor, its erosion.

Saltwater is made up of almost 4% solids in the form of sodium, chloride, sulfate, magnesium, calcium, and potassium. Its these solids in solution are eroding away the inside of the water passages. Run your Yammi on a 4% solution of sand and water for 2000 hours and get back to us on how well it held up. ;)

Most salt run outboards die of fuel or cooling related issues long before they ever die of corrosion.

Pursuit all the way. Every bit as good, if not better than a whaler. They do tend to be pricey though. Solid boats through and through.
