how would you know without trying to measure the angle of the cylinder to each other, if your motor is a 60 degree V4 or a 90 degree V4?

I just picked u a 1997 90 hp OCEAN PRO evinrude...and looking online for info about the OSI ignition system I found prompts asking if the motor is a 60 or a 90 degree?

also there is a hose going into each head off to the side about a 1/4" ID that is plugged with a brass pipe fitting plug on one side( no hose that side) and a hose that is plugged on the other side.

what is this for???? is this for a water temp??

the previous owner thought is was where the oil was injected...but I know that the oil was introduced into the fuel pump...at least that is what the other VRO motors did.

besides it is only one hose per side of the motor....the oil has to get mixed with the gas before it goes into the cylinder!!

Ill tell ya though that motor is heavy!!!! busted a nut moving it around!

Re: 60 degree or 90 degree V4?

A cereal box has four 90 degree corners. Pop the lid off your outboard and see if the 90 degree corners make a good line up with the spark plugs. If so you have 90 degrees, if not then it is 60 degrees.

By the way you can substitute the cereal box for anything that has four 90 degree corners and is large enough to line up.

Photos of the other stuff would make sure you get the correct answer.

If it is a V4 and has the OSI ignition, it is a 60-degree...

Bob, If the cowling is rectangular, the motor is 60*. If the cowling is roughly triangular the motor is 90*

ok thanks...it is a V4 and it does have OSI
.

I wonder if they made both the 60 degree and the 90 degree in the same year?

Yes, there were the "economy" motors such as the V-4 90? 88 and 112 engines along with the 60? V-4's for a few years.

A looper 60? V4 has the engine mounted trim switch on the port side. The 90? motors had the switch on the stb. side.

1/4 fitting is for water pressure gauge. Engine is a 60 degree looper. Great motor!
