Trying to find the shift rod height for a johnson 60 h.p. 1984 model. I know you have to measure from the neutral positon to the center of the hole. If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated.

My OMC manual show's the height to be, standard model 15 in. and 29/32, long shaft model 20 in. and 29/32. This is set with the rod offset to the rear. Also + or - a 1/32, and in neutral gear

My manual coincides with R.Johnson's as being:

1984 60hp = (Short shaft) 15-29/32" - - (Long shaft) = 20-29/32" plus/minus 1/32" Have the shift rod in neutral and the offset to the rear.

Coastie: I did not mean to correct your figures, but if your OMC manual is like mine, they included yrs. 82, 83, 84 all in one binder. Since our figures are off by an inch, one of us has got to be right, as the rod won't adjust that far. "Jeez" I hate that manual in those years, half a foot thick, and 25 lbs.

R. Johnson and Joe Reeves,
Your numbers have to be right because i just tried to adjust to what i had and like you said it will only adjust so far. I could not get the 21 23/32" so i was beginning to wonder. I really appreciate all the help. Far winds and following seas to both of you.
coastie
