Hi Tex, I got back to the engine the other day. After checking the settings started it up and runs at the correct idle now but rough. I don't think the timing is correct like you said. I looked at everything and found two things I don't like. At the low idle timing the upper part that goes into the flywheel opening is riding not allowing to adjust the timing lower. On the other side of the engine where the oil adjustment is located the rotating plate is also riding not allowing the throttle plates to close all the way? So where to start first to get this set up right? Thanks

Let me recap what I have done so far.
1. Checked the compression and all three are good
2. Check spark and all three good.
3. Cleaned all there carbs and replaced gaskets.
4. Cleaned and replaced fuel pump gaskets.
5. Only running engine with new fuel from auxiliary portable tank.
6. Removed plugs, grounded plug wires and checked idle and WOTwith timing light.
7. Adjusted cam roller so it has a .015 gap

After reviewing the sequence for adjustments again I think I will go through it step by step but watch for anything riding still. Also going to mark the timing marks without the flywheel cover on so it's easier to see. I may find something wrong and get lucky. I think the oiler adjustment is off and has been all along. The plugs every time I have pulled them out have been wet and black. Going to disconnect the oiler rod before synchronizing the carburetors. Then set the oiler rod per to the correct setting.

Not pretty yet till I get the engine in the garage and strip down to clean. I do have a question on my oil pump setting. Is this correct with the notch on the plate to the black post on the pump for the idle position? Thanks Tex hope you had a great holiday.

Holiday was fine, yours? I can't make heads or tails out of your picture. There is a post on todays forums herein that deals with the adjustment of the oil pump for a 60 triple. Has what looks like a picture of a page out of a manual showing the correct position.

Edit: Get a timing light and check the firing of your cylinders at various rpms. I have had, and others have had, problems with CDI packs on Mercs. Doesn't matter what kind of flashing repetition you get, just ensure that all cylinders give you the same response. If not, swap plugs and see if the problem follows the plug. If that doesn't do it, swap CDI's. If that doesn't do it mate and unmate your CDI input/output low voltage connectons a few times to ensure that you get good mating and signal flow. If that doesn't do it maybe time for a new stator......bad pickup coil under the flywheel.
