I have a E60TLCRE 60hp evinrude that runs like a champ until it gets warm then it shuts off. It will start right back up as soon as it is given a minute to cool. It is getting fuel and throttles smoothly from idle to full throttle without any hesitation.

I am thinking that this may be a electrical problem........

Any thoughts?

Powerpack maybe Coil maybe. If its a coil it should still fire on at least 2 cyls if its a 3 cyl or one cyl if its a 2 cyl. Its not overheating is it? Can you put your hand on the head between the plugs and hold it there for 2-3 seconds while running at temp?

If not overheating my money would be on powerpac. Although i do not know enough to tell you weather the stator or timer base will stop t from running once going if it gets hot.

Hi SKG,

I don't know if your motor is similar to my 1970 60 HP but I had a similar problem. After chasing electrical components I pulled the flywheel to check point gap and one of the point wires insulation had chaffed on the flywheel enough that it grounded when hot. The same thing might happen elsewhere in the point wiring.

It's a long shot but worth a look.

It's running cool and pumping water strong. The engine itself is not overheating.

Use a timing light to check for spark as soon as it stalls to see if you have an electrical problem.

Will do...however it will run forever on the hose with my flush cups hooked up not sure if this adds anything to the problem or possible solution. It does it when I am on the water between half to wide open throttle.

Do you have to pump the primer bulb to get it to restart?
